Scholarships Due in March 2009

MG James Ursano Scholarship Fund - Dependent children of Army soldiers on active duty, retired or deceased while on active duty or after retirement.  2.0 GPA or higher, transcripts, and proof of eligibility needed.  Online application.
Deadline for receipt of all documentation is March 1, 2010.

American Legion Auxiliary - National President's Scholarship - Awarded to children of veterans who served in the Armed Forces during certain eligibility dates for the American Legion..  Senior and Minimum 50 hours of Community Service hours needed.  Deadline 3/1/10 to local American Legion President for consideration.

Epilepsy Scholarship - 1-year, $3000 scholarship that honors 16 outstanding students who have done the following: overcome the challenges of epilepsy, been successful in school, done well in activities out of the classroom or in the community, shown the desire to make the most out of college or graduate school.  Deadline March 1, 2010.

Southern Scholarship Foundation - Room and board for FOUR years at selected colleges. See application for details. Deadline for Spring '10 term is 11/1/09.  Click on Future Students.  Deadline for Fall '10 term is 3/1/10. Apply EARLY! If you miss the deadline, please still apply, you'll be considered.

Navy League Scholarship - 3.0 GPA, direct dependent or direct descendent of an active or former sea service member.  Must graduate in June 2010, and enroll in college in Fall 2010 to study science or engineering. Four year scholarships available.   Deadline March 1, 2010.   

Seminole Club of Polk County - GPA of 3.2 or higher, SAT 1000/ACT 22 or higher, letter of acceptance from Florida State University. See Mrs. Roberts for applications in late February.

Phi Delta Kappa Scholarship - Grant for Prospective Educators - $1000 to graduating Senior majoring in Education at Florida Southern College.  Application packets in Career Lab. Deadline is March 1, 2010.

The Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation - IF YOU ARE the son or daughter of a Marine on Active Duty or in the Reserve, OR a former Marine or Marine Reservist who received an Honorable Discharge, Medical Discharge, or who was killed while in the service of our country, OR an active duty, reserve, or former US Navy Corpsman who is serving or has served with the US Marine Corps, AND family income is less than $63,000.  APPLY NOW!  Deadline is March 3, 2010  

Sammy Awards - Got Milk?  The got milk?/Milk Mustache campaign, in partnership with USA Today recognizes 25 high school senior student athletes nationwide with a $7,500 scholarship for achievements in academics, athletics, community service and leadership and is kicking off the 2010 Scholar Athlete Milk Mustache of the Year (SAMMY) awards.  2009-2010 athletes only.  Online application only.  Students may apply - Coaches and teachers may nominate at this link.  Deadline: March 7, 2010. 

Gamma Phi Zeta Chapter of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority - Applications in the Career Lab.  Application and Essay.  2.5 GPA or above. Photograph required.
Deadline back to Career Lab is March 11, 2010. 

Heart of Florida Foundation Scholarship - Seniors with 3.0 GPA, must have lived in HC area for at least two full years, no discipline or attendance issues.  Essay required and tax returns. All documents due back to Career Lab by March 13th. Winners announced at HCHS Senior Ceremony.

The American Legion Eagle Scout of the Year - Must have earned Eagle Award and religious emblem.  High school student, Florida resident.  In a troop chartered to an American Legion Post or the son or grandson of a Legion member or parent eligible to join The American Legion Department of Florida.  Deadline March 1st of current school year. 

The American Legion General Scholarship - Must be direct descendent or legally adopted child of a member in good standing of the American Legion Department of Florida; or a deceased U.S. Veteran who would have been eligible for membership in the American Legion.  Student must be high school Senior and parents must be Florida residents.  Applications in the Career Lab.  Deadline for submission is March 1, 2010. 

American Chemical Society Scholars Program - Minority (African-American, Hispanic/Latino, American Indian),  SAT/ACT scores, FAFSA, attending college in Fall 2010 to study chemistry, biochemistry, chemical engineering or other related chemistry major, two letters of recommendation. 3.0 GPA or higher in sciences and chemistry.  Deadline March 1, 2010.  Pre-Med or Pre-Pharmacy are NOT eligible for this scholarship.

(FAPSC) Florida Association of Postsecondary Schools and Colleges  Scholarship Program - Awards of Full Tuition, $5,000 and $1,000 scholarships are offered to students seeking to attend a Florida Career School or College.  Seniors must have GPA of 2.0 or higher, submit essay, transcript. 
Deadline is March 7, 2010. 

Spina Bifida Association of America - Applicant must have spina bifida, 3.0 GPA, physician's statement.  One of four different scholarships available to applicants.  Deadline March 7, 2010.

Grandmothers for Peace International Scholarship - Deadline March 1, 2010.    Requirements:

1. Be a high school senior or in your first year of college.
2. Complete the application form.
3. Provide information on your school and community activities.
4. Include two letters of recommendation.
5. Write a brief autobiography of your activities relating to peace and social justice, nuclear disarmament issues, and conflict resolution.
6. Describe how you will contribute to a peaceful and just society in the future. 
     

Delta Kappa Gamma Society - Delta Beta Chapter of Lakeland is an organization of women educators.  Each year they offer a grant of at least $1000.00 to a young woman who plans to pursue teaching as a career.  DEADLINE March 11th to Career Lab to be sent FREE by Mrs. Roberts.  Two letters of recommendation, official transcripts, interview, and two essays: a) Why I plan to enter the teaching profession and b) What distinguishes me from other applicants for this award.
 

Polk State College Foundation Scholarships - Application opens on February 1st for graduating Seniors applying to PSC.  Last year, the PSC Foundation administered over 600 scholarships. Students only need to submit one application to apply for all the endowed scholarships that are offered each year.  Please note that you are only eligible to receive one endowed scholarship.  Deadline: March 13.  You MUST LOG INTO APPLICATION WITH MRS. ROBERTS to upload your transcripts BEFORE March 13th.

Polk State College Public Service Scholar Scholarship - High School Juniors! Maintain 2.75 GPA, attend training session at PSC, be available on HCHS campus during senior year to handle inquiries about PSC, act as ambassador while attending PSC.  Limited to tuition for two years (60 credit hours). Deadline March 7 - has been extended!

Sunridge Junior Women's Club of Auburndale Community Service Scholarship -  $250 award - Female student, graduating senior, 3.0 GPA or higher, U.S. Citizen, resident of Polk County, FL.  Application, Essay and transcript required. Applications in Career Lab. 
Deadline March 15, 2010.

FAEDS (Florida Association of Educational Data Systems) is awarding $2,000 scholarships to selected high school seniors , college students, and teachers pursuing computer related educations. Deadline March 15, 2010

William J. English Scholarship - Any senior with at least a 2.5 GPA who will be attending a Florida public or private college and is planning to major in a computer science/information technology related field, may apply.  Deadline: March 15, 2010.

The Bailey Family Foundation - Haines City High School Seniors with at least a 2.5 GPA, demonstrate financial need, write a short essay about yourself.  $5000 award RENEWABLE for 4 years ($20,000 total).  Apply online.  Deadline March 15, 2010.

Ayn Rand Scholarship - Freshman & Sophomores:  "Anthem"  Awards range from $30 - $2,000.  Deadline March 20, 2010.  Read the book NOW - Write the essay LATER!   See website for essay topics and specific essay requirements.

Florida Association of Realtors Scholarship Essay Contest - 500 word or less essay required:  "How Does a Realtor Professional Benefit the Community?"  Prizes at local, state, and national levels. All essays, along with an official Essay Cover Form, must be submitted no later than Friday, March 20, 2010.

Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Gamma Phi Zeta Chapter - African American Females, Collegebound, Graduating senior with at least a 3.0 GPA.  Short essay required.  Applications in Mrs. Roberts office.  Final deadline is March 21, 2010.

Delta Kappa Gamma Society - Lambda Chapter - will provide $1,000 to a Polk County high school African American SENIOR girl who has demonstrated high academic promise and achievement and who plans to enter the field of education.  Required:  application, three letters of recommendation, giving info on your academics, character, family background and economic status, transcript, recent photograph, separate essay.  Deadline for completed applications is March 19, 2010 to Mrs. Roberts, or you can mail so that it is received by March 25 by organization.

DeVry University - Scholarships range from full-tuition to $1000 per semester.  If you are thinking of DeVry, apply early and be eligible for these scholarships.  Deadline in March 2010.

Fall 2010 Coca-Cola / Business Services Scholarship - Seniors who have been accepted to UCF may apply for this award, minimum GPA 3.0, essay, resume', three letters of recommendation.  Applications in Career Lab.  Postmark deadline is March 27, 2010.  This is for ANY Major - not just Business.

James R. Hoffa Memorial Scholarship - The applicant must be a son, daughter or grandchild of a Teamster member.  Top 15% of senior class.  Applications now available online.  Deadline March 30, 2010

Orphan Foundation of America  Applicants must have been in public or private foster care for a minimum of 12 months at the time of their 18th birthday.  Applicants may NOT have been adopted after foster care.  Deadline March 31, 2010.

EWGA Polk County Chapter - Female Athletic Scholarship - Golfers Preferred, but any Female athlete may apply.  Community service and Essay required.  Applications in Mrs. Roberts' office.  Final Deadline is March 31, 2010.

FASFEPA - $1000 for Person entering Studies in the Field of Arts or Sciences in Education for Fall 2010.  Application,  resume', essay, two letters of recommendation must be submitted to Guidance before March 10, 2010.  Due to Bartow by March 31, 2010.   Applications in the Career Lab.
