Scholarships Due in February 2010

Polk Education Foundation - For graduating Seniors, 2.5 GPA or higher, passed both FCATs, and passed Algebra II with a "C" or better. Go to this link for specific instructions and for the online application.  Mrs. Roberts also has Instructions and Brochures in her office.  Absolute deadline for online application is February 23 at NOON.  Supporting documents must be turned tin to Mrs. Roberts by February 26th at NOON.  Read directions carefully!  Write a lengthy essay, please!

 

Arts for Life! annually awards $1,000 scholarships to 25 graduating high school seniors who demonstrate excellence in visual art, music, dance, drama or creative writing.  Launched by former First Lady Columba Bush in 1999, the program has awarded scholarships to more than 200 gifted hig school seniors.  Read more about the program and download an application today.  Deadline for all parts of the entries is February 1, 2010

 

Blanco Foundation Scholarship - provides scholarships to committed students of high moral character, needing financial assistance and seeking a career in Education or Nursing.  SAT/ACT scores, 3.5 GPA or higher, essay, letters of recommendation required.   Download application or see Mrs. Roberts for a copy. Final Deadline for application to be received by the dommittee is February 1, 2010.

 

National Peace Essay Contest - 1,500 word essay on "Natural Resources and Conflict".  Awards range from $1,000 - $10,000.  See link for VERY specific information.  Deadline 2/1/2010.

 

Ladies Auxiliary VFW -  Deadline - February 1, 2010  

 

Pace Scholars Award - University of West Florida applicants.  Top 5% of senior class.  Two 750-word essays required, two letters of recommendation, activities in high school and community.  Applications in Career Lab.  Deadline February 1, 2010

 

Daughters of the American Revolution National Society Scholarships   -  17 scholarships available.  All applicants must be citizens of the United States and attend an accredited college or university in the United States. The ONLY exception is the American Indian Scholarship which is also available for vocational training. See website for specific criteria.  Deadlines: February 1st - April 15th.

 

National Outstanding Student Leader of the Year Award -  from Johnson & Wales University -  High School Seniors with leadership history.  Required resume, essay, and transcripts. Awards range from partial to full tuition to Johnson & Wales University - Denver campus ONLY. 
Deadline February 1, 2010. 

 

National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB) - Essay on the importance of free enterprise and a question on how you have demonstrated entrepreneurial achievement.  Deadline February 11, 2010.

 

KFC - Colonel's Scholars - Apply online between December 1st and February 10, 2010.  Graduating, College Bound Seniors with GPA of 2.75 or higher, who plan to pursue a Bachelor's degree; US Citizen or Permanent Resident.  Award is up to $5,000 Per Year and is renewable! Must also complete FAFSA.  Deadline is February 10, 2010 for entire application to be completed and submitted online. 

 

Club Hispano de Lakeland Scholarship - Hispanic Club of Lakeland, Inc.  offers five (5) $1000 scholarships to graduating Hispanic high school seniors in Polk County schools. Must have GPA 3.0 or higher, essay required, application and transcripts. Applications in Career Lab. Deadline 2/13/10

 

AXA Achievement Community Scholarship - $2,000 award  to Collegebound, High School Seniors, US Citizens or legal residents, be ambitious and motivated, outstanding achievement in school, community, or work, and be recommended by an unrelated adult who can attest to student's achievement.  This link will take you to the application designated for Haines City area students. Transcript needed. Deadline for all materials to be postmarked is February 15, 2009.

 

Burger King Scholars - $1000 Scholarship - Must have worked 40 weeks out of last 52 weeks, GPA 2.5 or higher, Community service, financial need.   You don't need to work at Burger King to apply for this - any employment will do.  Apply online only -  directions on link - get access code on link before going to application.  Deadline is February 15, 2010. 

 

Central Florida Marine Corps Scholarship - for high school seniors - who are child/grandchild of an active duty or reserve US Marine OR of a US Marine who recevied an Honorable or Medical discharge OR who died serving in the US Marines.  Eligible Marines name, address, unit or DD214 will be necessary when applying.  Application requires SAT/ACT score, essay, transcripts and two (2) letters of recommendation.  Apply after December 1, 2009 DEADLINE is February 19, 2010.

 

Burger King Employee Scholars Program - $1000 Scholarship - Burger King employee for the past year, 2.0 GPA or higher, community service, written letter of recommendation from BK employer.  Apply online only -  Directions on link - get access code on link before going to application! 
Deadline February 28, 2010.

 

Best Buy Scholarship - Grades 9 - 12 Eligible.  Best Buy Children’s Foundation grants scholarships to students who have good grades and outstanding community service.  Scholarship recipients will be chosen based on community service and academic achievement and must be entering an accredited U.S. university, college or technical school in the fall immediately following their high school graduation.  Must Apply Online! Deadline: February 15, 2010.

 

FFA Scholarships - Various scholarships available.  See Mrs. Roberts or Ms. Hall for a copy of the FFA 2007-2008 Scholarship Book, or visit www.ffa.org to apply online. Deadline: February 15th.

 

Cargill Community Scholarship Program - Award based on academic achievement, extracurricular and other activities.  350 students will receive $1,000 scholarships.  MUST be African-American, American Indian, Asian American or Hispanic to apply! Deadline: February 15th each year.

 

David C. Williams Scholarship Program - Florida Minerals & Chemistry Council.  $500 awarded based on financial need, scholastic achievement & essays.  Applications online and in the Career Lab now!  Deadline February 15, 2010. 

 

2010 Commitment to Agriculture Scholarship Program - sponsored by Monsanto and the National Assoc. of Farm Broadcasters.  Requirements:  be a high school senior, have immediate family actively engaged in production agriculture, SAT 850 or higher, ACT 18 or higher, C or higher grade average, plan to enroll in college, university or technical school to pursue a career in agriculture.  Postmark Deadline February 15.

 

USA Funds Access to Education Scholarship - Must plan on enrolling in a 2 or 4 yr college or university or trade/technical school in Fall 2010.  Anyone can apply, but priority will be given to minorities and students with physical disabilities.  This is a renewable award of $1,500 if 2.5 GPA maintained.  Deadline Feb 15, 2010. 

 

MilitaryScholar.org - scholarships for military children - Scholarship applications will request information on the applicant's scholarship, participation in school and community activities, work experience, and an essay. Minimum 3.0 GPA Financial information will not be required. 500 Word Essay required on this topic:  Every able-bodied citizen should be required to serve for a 2 year period of time in the military -- Why or Why Not?   Deadline to your local commissary is  February 20, 2010

 

Johnson and Wales University National High School Chef of the Year Competition for Juniors and Seniors in High School.  Deadline is February 23, 2010.  Full details on link.  Mrs. Roberts also has the brochure/application.

 

Polk Community College Public Service Prior to High School Graduation Scholarship - High School Juniors!  Maintain 2.75 GPA, attend training session at PCC, be available on HCHS campus during senior year to handle inquiries about PCC, act as ambassador while attending PCC.  Limited to tuition for two years (60 credit hours). Deadline is March 6, 2010.  See Mrs. Roberts for application.

Lakeland Choral Society -Lee Ross Memorial Scholarship.  Juniors & Seniors!  Applicants must plan to continue their musical education and follow a serious career in the field of music. $1,000 award. Keep checking this site for 2009-10 application. Deadline: February 25th.

 

Polk Community College Foundation Scholarships - Application opens on February 1st for graduating Seniors applying to PCC.  Last year, the PCC Foundation administered over 600 scholarships.  Students only need to submit one application to apply for all the endowed scholarships that are offered each year.  Please note that you are only eligible to receive one endowed scholarship.  Deadline: March 15.

 

Polk Community College Special Skills Scholarship - These scholarships are given to students who display special talents, such as athletics and other skills.  See high school athletic directors or coaches for information, and contact PCC Financial Aid office for applications. 

 

Gamma Phi Zeta Chapter of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority - Applications in the Career Lab.  Photograph required. Must be mailed and received in Bartow BEFORE February 28, 2010
